What to know before you come
A few simple things make your time in the water easier. If you’re booking for someone else, this page is for you too.
What to bring
- A swimsuit you can move in
- A towel and something warm for after
- A water bottle
- A hair tie, if you have long hair
Before you arrive
- Eat lightly, about an hour before
- Skip lotion and oil, for the pool’s sake
- Come 10 minutes early to talk first
- Fill out the health note below
What happens
- A short talk first. How you feel today, anything that hurts, anything that worries you about water.
- Into warm, chest-deep water. You don’t need to swim. Your face stays above the water the whole time.
- You lead. Ask for more, less, slower, or a pause at any time. You can stop whenever you want, for any reason.
- Back to land slowly. Rest, warm up, drink water. You may feel sleepy or emotional; both are normal.
Where: Amal Lana comes to you, at your pool or the pool you’ve arranged. Is your pool ready?
Check with your doctor first if…
Water sessions are relaxation bodywork, not medical treatment. Please ask your doctor before booking if any of these apply to you.
- You have a fever, an infection, or an open wound
- You’ve had surgery recently
- You have a heart or lung condition
- You have seizures that aren’t well controlled
- Your blood pressure runs very high or very low
- You’re pregnant
- You’ve been told to avoid warm water, hot tubs or baths
A short health note
Fill this out once before your first session, or before a Water Day. It goes only to Amal Lana’s inbox.
Often asked
I can’t swim. Can I still come?
Yes. You’re held the whole time in chest-deep water, and your face stays above the water.
I’m nervous about water.
Many people are, at first. Say so before you start. You can begin on the steps, go as slowly as you like, and stop at any time. A 30-minute First Float is a gentle way to try.
Can a family member or caregiver come?
Yes. They’re welcome to stay poolside, and can help you in and out of the water.
What if I need to change my time?
Please give 48 hours’ notice. If you’re ill, you can always move your session. For Water Days and Valley trips, a deposit holds the date.
Is it covered by insurance?
Sessions aren’t billed to insurance. If you have an HSA or FSA, ask your plan whether it can be used.
